Have you ever wanted to buy a homeless person a hot meal or get them a cool drink of water, but you were afraid to give them money because it might not be spent on sustenance, but vices?  Most of us have felt this urge to help the less fortunate, the down-trodden, but the obstacles have won out and as we turn our faces to avoid their gaze, our hearts harden just a little each time.

This holiday season, Hankins and Sohn Plastic Surgery Associates and Advanced Aesthetics Medical Spa would like to offer you the chance to open your arms and your heart to the less fortunate by supporting a unique charity here in the Las Vegas Valley.

For over twenty years, Friends in the Desert has been providing a hot meal six days a week, and a sack lunch on the seventh to the homeless community in Henderson.  The meals are provided by volunteers who, each night, purchase and prepare a hot meal.  The volunteers then serve the meal to the homeless, who are seated at tables of eight.  Thus, for a small portion of the day, these individuals who most of society avert their gaze upon meeting, are served with dignity and respect.

Friends in the Desert is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and the volunteers that serve the meals range from families, groups of friends, work groups, church groups, schools, civic and other types of organizations.

Over the years, Friends has also become a resource for distributing the clothing, blankets, shoes, hygiene supplies, water and other basic items that are so important to those without protection from our harsh desert environment.  Friends also works with those who are motivated to find shelter, health care, transportation, etc.

Friends in the Desert has been able to do all this on a shoestring budget because of the amazing and dedicated volunteers.  However, it recently needed to bring on a meal coordinator to help organize the services provided.  This has severely strained their budget, putting at risk this amazing organization and the services they have been providing to the homeless community.

Please consider giving this year to Friends in the Desert - we have done our research and we feel that this organization is truly deserving of your support.  Every dollar given goes directly to providing these services to the homeless.  The board and the officers of Friends in the Desert are all volunteers, who serve without pay, so the administrative expenses are extremely low.
